Hi there, I'm also from Australia and I guess firstly a helpful link for you, for when you do finally get a radio is the following; http://www.ips.gov.au/HF_Systems/1/6/3 Can give you a general idea of what propagation is like around at the moment, and as a word of warning though, signal is really damn poor in Australia (well in the south atleast..), although as far as I know that's mainly due to the current sunspot cycle positioning, so things will get better over the next few years, and atleast there is the occasional night where signal is better... (There might be more luck early morning? I think I noticed once before going to work there was decent T index but unfortunately I didn't have the time to play with the radio..). Also worth while to check their HF Conditions reports etc Now, for a radio.. I'm guessing you want something on a budget (well you said 150), and something that's good value for money... and good sensitivity I picked up the Degen 1103 at the start of the year from Ebay new, for like must've been around $70 or $80 at the time, and I'm really happy with it! (Although I admit I'm not very experienced when it comes to all this!). Nice digital tuner, lots of memory for storing positions, regarded for being able to get a very good quality signal, and also - a definite must have feature, it has SSB!! For more reviews of it, check out http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/4288 and yeah, take a look on ebay, if you search for Degen 1103, you'll find there's Australian sellers that sell it for ~$150 O_o, but if you search for DE1103 instead, there's a few in china that sell it for half the price! (or less now..) So you'll have some change left over, which you can put into an antenna or to keep in your pocket :) I use the long wire it comes with, seems okay for me *shrug* Well that's my recommendation... Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of hystericalme Sent: Friday, August 10, 2007 10:12 PM To: Shortwave Spy Numbers Stations Subject: [Spooks] Shortwave Visit http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/spooks to unsubscribe from this list Hi guys, I signed up to this mailing list after coming across number stations online. I've looked online but i'm pretty confused, i just want something i can scan channels with, listen to random stuff, listen for number stations while i lay in bed at night.. that sort of thing but something of quality perhaps.
