Sorry Kurt but wrong,
We are dealing here with UK law not US law.
Without going into lengthy detail the two primary pieces of quite draconian legislation at work in this circumstance are:- 1.Wireless Telegraphy Act, with all its additions, amendments, orders and plethora of daughter legislation, which basically lays down what can or cannot be legally listened to. (The fact that much of this Act is not currently widespreadly applied does not alter the possible effects while it's still on our Statute Book, and it occasionally pops up in the most bizzare situations)

2. Official Secrets Act, pts 1 & 2.
A high percentage of the E2k senior membership are signitories to this document by virtue of their current employment/past employment/armed forces connections/civil police connections - there is no 'opt out' clause and once signed lasts for life.

So E2k prefers to play a safe game.

At this point in time you may be interested to hear that some of our so called 'anti terror legislation/surveillence' has been so manipulated that it's being used :-
To prosecute owners whose dogs 'shit' in public areas.
To prosecute motorists who stop, even briefly, on Yellow Lines (no parking area), even when the traffic flow has been impeded.
To check if parents are sending their children to the 'right' school

And no, I'm not joking.
