I have been using Fuji's Phoenix lab for the last couple of years
almost exclusively (Fuji film). The Fuji mailers are cheaper than the cost
of sending the film directly to them with an open billing account. I have
not suffered any scratches, but I will get several rolls back mounted upside
down and on one occasion they have sent the film out to their retail outlet
for pickup. When I have talked to them on the phone, I did not feel very
confident in their quality control and abilities. They couldn't tell me
where my film was that had been mailed a week earlier FedEx next day
delivery. It did come back the next morning (Satueday delivery) as I
requested and provided them with an FedEx account number.
When I am traveling, I do send the film directly to them in groups
of six or more in large padded envelopes which have been previously
addressed. Doing that, I usually have over half of my film waiting for me
when I get home.
Fuji's quality control on the developing of their film has been very
good and I wouldn't think of changing. I just wish they would pay a little
closer attention to the mounting and control of where the film is and where
it is to go. To this point, they haven't sent any of my film to someone
else and they seem to give preference to film rescieved in batches.
