From: Dave Cohen, SPORRS Founder.

Well, it seems that in the course of having some fun, we got a little out
of hand. While what one SPORRS subscriber posted today may be amusing to
some, that type of content does not belong on this list. My original idea
for this list was to provide a forum for photographers of railroad subjects
with a place to discuss our hobby. I think we can do this in a respectable
and tactful way. I don't think the vulgar notes in my mailbox today
represent this ideal very accurately.

Since it's my place to do this, I am going to list what we should not be
doing on this list here as well as provide you all with another copy of the
SPORRS info file to read. I suggest that you do read it, and try to
respect the purpose of this list in a professional manner. While Jim is
right, we need to refrain from any further use of vulgarity on SPORRS, or
on Jim's list 'Foamer'. This means everyone. This conflicts with Jim's
employer's policy of use for the company computer and server, and since Jim
thankfully has this SPORRS list running so efficiently and fast on his
employers server, let's not louse this up by turning this into a trash
forum to slander others or their companies. I sure don't want to moderate
this currently automated list or run SPORRS on this slow little PC again,
so lets have some respect and abide by the rules and have some fun in a
respectful manner. What do you say people, why don't we try to 'clean up
out act'?

I hate to mention them, but this is required at this point:

The DON'T list on SPORRS:

DO NOT use vulgar language on the list.

DO NOT post any content which could slander, implicate, accuse or damage
any individual or company on this list. NO EXCEPTIONS.

DO NOT simultaneously post anything to more than one list at a time if this
includes SPORRS. NO EXCEPTIONS. This list's content is for the
subscribers, not the trash lists on the Internet. We don't need that kind
of exposure.

DO NOT cc: the author of a message when replying to the SPORRS list unless
they asked you to do so. DO NOT quote an entire previous post if you are
just replying to part of it. If you cannot properly address and edit
E-mail at this point, please ask for assistance, unsubscribe or take a
computer class.

We will unfortunately have to start removing offending subscribers from
this mailing list. Please do the best you can to avoid contributing to
these problems.

Thank you very much for your time and understanding. Below is a copy of
the SPORRS Info File. Please read it and address any questions about this
list policy to myself or Jim, NOT directly to the SPORRS list.

Thanks again,

Dave Cohen

SPORRS INFO FILE:

Welcome to the SPORRS mailing list!

What is SPORRS?:
SPORRS is an acronym for Serious Photographers Of Railroad Related
Subjects. This list is the ideal place to discuss railfan photography and
your related railfan adventures!

Some quick basics:

To Subscribe:
Send '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' a message with the words
'subscribe sporrs' in the body of your message.

To Unsubscribe:
Send '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' a message with the words
'unsubscribe sporrs' in the body of your message.

To Post a message to the SPORRS list:
Send your message to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'. Note that
'[EMAIL PROTECTED]' will NOT work -- don't leave out
the itchy part! And please be patient; sometimes it will take
several hours for your post to appear due to the nature of the list
server.

For Help with the Majordomo list server:
Send a message to '[EMAIL PROTECTED]'.
Jim Gilley, SPORRS List Administrator.

For More Information about SPORRS:

Dave Cohen, SPORRS List Founder.

SPORRS Purpose:
A place for serious railfans to talk about issues related to
railfanning and taking pictures of trains. If you have a question
about film, processing, camera equipment, or other railfan gear,
SPORRS is the perfect place to post. Also, you can post the results
of your latest trip, and let everyone know how you did. You can
also talk about books, magazines, videos, etc -- just about anything
related to railfanning.

For NEWS related to railroading, post the Foamer list instead of SPORRS.

What is Foamer:
Foamer is another automated mailing list that runs in a similar
manner to SPORRS. Foamer is dedicated to railroad industry
news. Please do NOT post photographic related topics to Foamer
that's what SPORRS is for. For more information on the Foamer
news list, contact Jim Gilley at: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

SPORRS, like Foamer, is an OPEN list, which means anyone can
subscribe. There is no manager or director. The list is totally
automated.

Also note that you MUST be a subscriber of SPORRS to post a
message to it. This is intended to keep spammers out. One side
effect of this is that you cannot post from a different account than
you subscribe from. The same is also true of the Foamer list.

A note from us:
Please feel free to tell all your friends about SPORRS. All we ask is that
when posting to SPORRS, please try to keep topics somehow related to SPORRS
theme and to be courteous and respectful of others opinions. There are
very few rules, and they are listed below.

SPORRS Rules:
1. Please do not repost or redistribute material from SPORRS without the
posting author's prior permission. Respect any and all copyrights.
2. For liability reasons, we cannot commercially advertise items for sale
on SPORRS. Posting personal photographic equipment for sale IS permitted
for the other list members convenience only.  Please, no on-list bidding;
take these matters to personal E-mail.
3. Please do not post file attachments to SPORRS. The server cannot
redistribute file attachments to e-mail.

We are pleased to bring you this list, and we hope you enjoy it. This list
exists for all of us. Thanks!

Sincerely,

Dave Cohen, SPORRS List Founder
Jim Gilley, List Administrator
