I find the comments about Virgil Staff's photography interesting.
Maybe I am becoming a dirty old man but I find some of this kind of
photogrphy a pleasent departure from the norm. I have considered for
several years doing a RR calendar along the lines of Bass Pro Shop's "Uncle
Buck" Calendars. Uncle Buck was John Morris' real life uncle until he
passed away. He was photogenic and had a lot of character. Each month
contained a picture of Uncle Buck in fishing or hunting attire looking at a
semi-nude good looking babe with some halarious comment with a double
meaning. For instance, Uncle Buck showing a semi-nude gal sitting next to
him or in his lap how to tie some fishing fly's while looking at her chest.
His comment being, "A gal really has to know how to tie a man's fly to catch
the big ones". Or something like that. You would have to see the picture
to really appreciate it.
Anyway, the Uncle Buck calendars have been history for several years
now. Too much flack about sexual discrimination and an insult to family
morals and such. Too bad! They were well done and humorous.
The same kind of thing could be done with railroading. Railroad
terms are made for. It just takes a little imagination, a lot of nerve, and
some good photography. I am tired of the 3/4 wedgy, "S" curves, overpass
shots. They have been done before and very well. It is hard to beat what
has already been done. It's stagnant! There are very few new areas to
conquer. The hobby needs some new blood or thinking. Not to mention some
light hearted humor. Railfanning is predominately a male hobby and what
better way to mix to male bastions that nude females and trains!
Trains and Sex, the perfect combination.
