I would like to thank everyone who has given me input and something to
think about before I spend lots a money on a scanner. I probably should
have stated my main purpose for wanting to invest in this piece of
equipment.
My main reason for investing in a slide scanner is to preserve older
slides that I shot in the early 70s til present, that have either been
infected with the Kodachrome Fungus (yet another topic) or slides that
were shot on the various E6 Chromes of the same period. While the E6
stuff hasn't gone sour yet, I would still like to have this stuff on
CD-Rom just in case it does. The Kodachromes can be fixxed in Photoshop
and then saved to a CD for future regeneration.
A freind of mine who works for the local news paper uses a Nikon
LS-10 at home. He has a Kodak machine at work, and comparing the scans
between the 2 machines the Nikon is consistantly a better and sharper
image. He had suggested the Nikon to me, and since most of my
photographic gear is Nikon, I figured that this would be logical choice.
I had totally discounted the Polaroid just because of brand name.
So at this point am i waisting my time and money buying something other
than a drum scanner? Of coures, where do I get the cash for a drum
scanner???
