>>Hate to say it, the scans at the size we have on the SPORRS website, >>and on Mr. Gardner's are crap. He can do nothing with them for all intents >>and purposes, but display them on a web site.
First, I must clarify that our scans are not crappy as far as quality of the scan goes, but the limited size of the image, does not yield good results when attempting to use for paper based publications. >>......And blow any exclusivity of any image on any site, erase all hope of >>keeping collections and images together as intended, make site management >>more difficult as your images move by themselves, alter them, and turn >>them into crap that no one would want to see, so if we DID want to put any >>of our own (same) shots in a book or on a calendar LATER, no one would want >>them because they would be common crap all over the net everywhere, etc., >>etc., etc..... I think you are missing the point here Dave. I have a grave concern over what he is doing. I am fully (almost) aware of the implications that could result. It really does affect all of us. I am not detracting from what possible damages he could cause, because they are real, and a serious threat. What I was trying to point out is the fact that it is going to be very difficult at best, to get this guy a slap on the wrist. Maybe this is what it would take to get him to stop. Maybe not. Although right now his stance is to a certain degree, challenging us, we (including you) do not know if his original ideals were of a malicious intent. I have the opinion (of which I am entitled), that they were not. He is certainly being a jerk about it though, and I don't like it. You have given everyone an option or two to help soften or hopefully eliminate the problem. I intend to do what I can. It may not work. Beyond that, I don't have a claim. Are you going to challenge the guy in court over material that does not belong to you? Are you going to sue the thief that broke into your neighbors house across the street? That won't work. You could be a witness saying that you saw him break in and assist the effort to hang him. But, we need for the people that the damage has occurred to to step up to the plate. I will do whatever I can to support the cause. The web is a place that unfortunately caters very well to people taking advantage of others, ESPECIALLY photographers. If it becomes too bad, the simple solution is not to publish photos via the web, then I know there can't be a problem. I don't want to resort to that, but if that is what it takes... Give me some more realistic options to pursue, and I will. I am very serious when it comes to people stealing my work, images that I have bent over backward to create. I will not allow anyone to step on my toes. And even though the sacredness of the copyright law has been seriously challenged here, and it bothers the hell out of me, my toes don't hurt yet.
