I don't think there is as much tension between the folks on this list
as we might think. All of us are learning from what we see and read
on the SPORRS list. I would not begin to get into a discussion with
Dave or several of the other folks on subjects like the use of an
incident light meter (whatever that is) or the details of the
sometimes mind numbing discussions on putting labels on slides. I
have not advanced to the intricacies of Bogen ball heads.

Yet.. I take some pretty good pictures and will happily join a
discussion on things like Charlie Dischinger's excellent use of fog
and light in some of his recent Glacier shots. Some of the folks on
the list are competent users of computers and photo manipulations
software like PhotoShop while others are less comfortable with the
technology. As Dave Epling mentions below, there is a wide range of
camera gear in use.

The common thread is our interest in railroads and taking pictures of
them. I suggest that we all get comfortable with the range of skill,
equipment and passion of the list members. For most of us, Rail
Photography is a hobby. That means it is supposed to be FUN. One of
the great things about this list is the minimal amount of flaming.
Nobody seems to get put down just because they don't have a Nikon F5.

So.. Dave Epling and Evan, I am interested in your ideas and views
and I suspect that lots of others are too. Let's keep the list a
place for everybody who meets the basic test of being serious enough
to have an idea.

Thanks Dave for providing a place where we can all be comfortable,
learn and enjoy.
