In talking with some graphic pros at work, they have significant
concerns with projecting slides that will be used for printing
processes. If we want to use these images for presentations, dupes are
standard operating proceedure. Now, the first thought is physical
damage, which of course is a concern. Turns out projectors are verboten
even inhouse - they feel Kodachrome was not really designed for
repeated projection use.

The obvious answer to use of duplicates is - how good is the duplicate?
I can notice some loss of detail, particularly in shadow areas using a
editing viewer. Projected in a classroom, it is less obvious. These
are custom lab dups - above average quality.

My feeling is you do lose some quality using even the best duplicates.
On the other hand, everytime you project a prized orginal some sublime
but additive degradation occurs. If its some throw together show where
projection conditions are marginal to begin with and interest in subject
matter is more a factor than trained-eye appraisal of photographs - I
now use dups of favorite shots. Except of course in the greater Tampa
area.
