=======================================================

There are only two weeks left before the Ozark Invitational Foamer Weekend
in Springfield, Mo. If you know someone who might be interested or want to
bring a friend along, don't let the invitational part bother you.

I do need to have a count of who and how many to count on so that I may be
able to make all of the necessary arrangements. There is a new Days Inn???
almost within walking distance of my place (less than a mile). And while I
am on the south side of town and the yards are on the north side of
Springfield, it takes less than twenty minutes, usually 15 minutes to get
there.

I also need to know the times you will be arriving and whether you will be
able to be here the entire time or just the weekend. The other thing I
need to know is, if you want to go all of the way to Thayer and spend a
night or two at the River View Motel in Mammoth Spring. I am not sure how
that will work with everyone coming at different times but I can try to
work it out if demand warrants it.

I do anticipate that the attendance will not be that large to preclude
being flexible and making decisions on the spur of the moment. But it does
help to know who is coming, when, and what they would like to do or see.

If you are interested, I have made up my use a set of Delorme maps of each
subdivision. I can have copies made at Kinko's for each of you if you
would like to have one. I am not sure what it would cost to have them
copied and bound, but if you want one let me know and I will look into it.

Train traffic has been rather light, but has been getting back to normal.
We are still running an average of thirty two trains a day out of
Springfield. With about half of them going south to Memphis. It appears
as the big concentration of traffic is happening around Thayer in the
morning hours. As the north bound trains are hitting Springfield from noon
to four pm. and the southbound trains are hitting Springfield after
midnight to the wee hours of the morning.

But there are still plenty of trains to shoot. Last Sunday I went out with
Terry LaFrance,to shoot the Thayer Sub. and we got a late start around 10am
because we had shot the A&M passenger train the day before and didn't get
back until after midnight. We chased a Z train south to Mountain Grove and
caught it meeting three northbounders along the way. The last
northbounder, we decided to chase back north to the new siding location at
Lock, which I had not seen and wanted to check out. There use to be some
really nice shots there and I was told how much it had changed. Well it
has changed quite a bit, but the shots have gotten even better and many
more of them to chose from. No brush and foliage to shoot around. Almost
like being out west. But for you foliage fans, give it a couple of years
and it will look like the rest of the Ozarks.

Our intension was to wait there for the next northbounder to chase the rest
of the way back to Springfield, but he never appeared and wasn't out of
Thayer yet. So we gave up and came home as the cloud cover was getting
rather thick and the light got flat and dark. But not dark enough to make
of dramatic pictures. But there were still a couple of trains about to
leave Springfield. So if the light hadn't been in that in between stage,
we could have finished the day out with another couple of southbounders.

Let me know if you are still going to be able to make it and what you would
like to do. Looking forward to seeing all of you in two weeks.
