Most reliable information we have received thus far (and it's from the movie's producer and director) is that the 4018 will be pulled from the Age of Steam museum in Dallas in the next several weeks and given a complete overhaul somewhere near Plano by Gary Bensman's RDI. The movie, which will be family-oriented with a rail theme, is called "Big Boy" as a working title, will be filmed in Texas in November. Following the movie-making, the locomotive will likely go on a publicity tour, which will take the 4018 to Sacramento for next year's Railfair/NRHS Convention (although it will likely not be used by the NRHS, the Convention is in Sacramento at the same time Railfair is going on). "Who will run it to Sacramento?" you ask. Well, since it's being financed by a movie company and they have pretty deep pockets -- hey, every railroad has its price. The movie is due for release in December 1999. Age of Steam will retain the title to 4018, so a museum will actually own an operating Big Boy for possible fan trip service in the early 2000's. It sounds too good to be true, but so far we haven't found the "fly in the ointment." Let's keep our fingers crossed....
