Not to keep the "Big Boy" movie discussion alive, but since the posted
story was coming from the Hollywood end, I thought I'd check the Dallas
end to get their story. The architecture firm for which I work has been
doing quite a bit of work with the Age of Steam Museum to study options
for a possible relocation. Our project architect for that work asked
the musuem curator about the Big Boy story. He confirmed that, in fact,
the film is a serious and legitimate idea. He also said that they had
an experienced steam locomotive restoration expert check out the
locomotive, and he pronounced it in "good" condition. A cost estimate
is forthcoming from the same expert. Of course, at this stage the whole
thing could just as easily die as move forward, so don't hold your
breath. The locomotive may look good, but it has been sitting static
out in the elements at a fairly resource-poor museum for lo these many
years.
