Hi Guys, This issue is a little more heated than I would like to see. We are here to help each other, not destroy each other and our reputations. > If you were really as serious a rail photographer as you > claim to be, we'd see some of your published work once in awhile. I'll > stand by mine. Brian I have to stand by Dave on this one. First, how Dave decides to display his pictures, or whether he chooses to send them into magazines is his business. Although for a while, I had quite a few images published in magazines, I became frustrated with the long delays in getting slides returned, and at the time, what appeared to be favoritism among certain photographers. So except for calendars, you don't see my work published anymore either. Second, I will vouch for the quality of Dave's RR photography. I have seen a lot of RR images, and his work will stack up to ANYONE else's, bar no one. And I know many who have seen his work will also vouch for the quality of his pictures. As I said in a previous message, trying new techniques, new films, new equipment, new locations, etc, brings a fresh face to the shooting photos. It forces us to rethink what are old habits and old traditions. I think it is silly at this point not to give new technology at least a try, if it doesn't suit what you like or require, then no harm done. However, on the brighter side, if the effort provides for ideals or techniques that are better than you are currently achieving, why on earth, with the possible exception of money and motivation, would you not move on to bigger and better things? Dave very seldom shoots from the hip. He researches topics, analyzes the information he receives, and distributes facts. Case in point: The Kodachrome today, in archival tests is no better than the current crop of E-6 films. The sharpness is equal or better. These are facts, not opinions. Dave is simply relaying facts. Hopefully I didn't misinterpret, but I believe this is all Dave is trying to say. Everyone has their own opinions, and they are entitled to them. However, this doesn't mean we have to shoot each other in the foot, because opinions don't agree. Use the difference in opinion to better learn what others do, how they do them, why they do them, and how that might relate to what you do, how you do them, and why you do them. We can all benefit from everyone else's experiences, as long as we don't try and murder each other in the process. As technology changes, so may opinions. But they won't if you fail to try.
