their opinions and learn to respect them, even if you don't agree. And,
by the way, you aren't the only one who has strong opinions on this or
any other point...."
I hate to sound like Dave's little cheerleader here but what the
hell: No guts, No glory. I think Brain needs to sit back and remember
that the SPORRS site was set up for people to express there opinions.
If Dave hadn't set up the site your opinion would've never made it to
100 plus subscribers. I agree that there are times when David can fire
a few flames of his own, but my expereince is that he measures his
response based on the rationale that went into the subscribers opinion.
Brain's comments were similar to the SOTM vote where people give each
shot a yea or nay, but no textual discription of why they liked or
disliked the shot (in the general forum, after the vote). I think there
have been plenty of examples were dissenting opinions; provided they
were supported by objective data, or even subjective experiences were
discussed in a more positive manner. All things considered I was think
Dave's response had valid comments that Brian should reflect on.
I'll go on record with Rick Newton's comments about the quality of
Dave's shots because I've seen them first hand and they're great. What
you see on SPORRS isn't a very representative of his good stuff. His
intent was not to create a shrine to his images but to use them to flush
out some other submissions. His selection of images are often done to
fill-out a string of images, or to balance out a blizzard of wedgies.
Since Brian seems to think that the way to judge a photographer is to
count the number of images published in Trains, CTC Board, or Rail News
I was surprised to find the SPORRS void of any of his shots. Using his
own criteria his own opinions must not count for much. I'd love to see
some of Brians shots and read what he did to create the shot, and why it
appeals to his eye; but I won't judge his opinions based on his
photographic or scanning skills.
