Hardly a spot, but an area that holds memories of good shooting, along with
easy access, is the ATSF (Oops!)Stockton Sub between Holt and Antioch. I
had the good fortune to live in Antioch for a few years and found this to
be a great base to work out of.

It was all track warrant territory west of Stockton (Now this is changing
as CTC intrudes)so a scanner on the road channel would advise of impending
meets on this largely single track busy line. High speed running across the
delta, two draw bridges to deal with,, especially on weekends with all the
pleasure boaters out, the primo 199/991 and 899/998 trains, Amtrak's San
Joaquins, and many others make this one of my favorite areas. Long summer
evenings when the days heat has cooled were especially delightful. And to
the west Franklin Canyon provided a change in scenery with slower running.

There are many locations for interesting and varied shots with plenty of
opportunities to use a variety of lenses. My personal favorites were out in
the delta area around the Orwood drawbridge.

Good hunting!

John
