Which brings up the axiom of the "sacrificial railfan." Whenever two or more
railfans are
gathered together in one spot waiting for hours for a train, the train will
show up
exactly five minutes after one of them leaves. Everyone knows this is true, and
it becomes
a matter of willpower to see which fan can hold out the longest and which
becomes the
"sacrificial railfan."
