Everyone:

While we are beating to death the C & I and BNSF Mississippi River Line,
allow me one more turn. This is in regards to the fall foliage. Remember,
this is weather related so, anything can happen, but most years the
Illinois portion of the River Line is not optimal for fall foliage shots. The
best leaf color occurs farther north in Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Let me explain. As you all know the peak color in the leaves starts in the
far north and works its way south week by week. Usually the leaves
turn in Illinois between October 15 and October 31. Unfortunately that is
about when the optimal fall weather, balmy blue sky days in the 70
degree range, ends. Many years in Illinois about when the leaves are
perfect a wild fall storm blows them all off the trees and onto the ground.
If you come out here from where ever for perfect fall foliage shots, go
north along the river line to Wisconsin in late September or early October
when the leaves are nicely colored and still on the trees. Now I only
wish I could follow my own advice. I have many shots in Illinois from late
October when the leaves still appear mostly green and you really cannot
tell them from an August shot. Sorry to belabor the subject, but not really.
