On yesterday, 7/1/98, I spent about 13 hours (06:30-19:30) on Tehachapi Pass.
In excess of 20 trains traversed the pass during this time. The major
tie/rail replacement project is nearly completed. 79,000 concrete ties from
Cable MP 356.6 to Caliente MP 335.2. The project began at Cable on the east
and is now to a point between Tunnel #2 MP 337.8 and Caliente. No 8 hour work
window yesterday, for which I was very grateful. Steady flow of traffic most
of day. Most interesting was former ATSF B23-7 in new paint Orange/Green
Heritage scheme. New painted HLCX lease locomotive on BNSF.

Among the films I used was the new Fujicolor NHG II 120, ASA 800 (I know color
negative film is a dirty word on this board). I have used a roll of this
before and it is a very fine grained color negative film. I can’t see much
difference with my 25X grain focuser with the grain of this film than
Fujicolor ASA 400 or Fujicolor ASA 100 Fujicolor film.

In my opinion, Tehcachapi pass remains one of the “world class” train watching
locations in the USA!
