Addendum to #3 - go to your local carrier of choice (Fedex, UPS,
USPostal), and get their cardboard envelopes in advance.  In the case of
USPS, also buy $3 stamps for the US Priority Mail envelopes - that way
you can drop the envelopes in any USPostal drop box!  Those envelopes
can be tucked into many places - they are painless to bring along and
are highly convenient when on the run - no wasted time there.  

4.  For those concerned with keeping film at a stable (cool?)
temperature, Coleman makes great "squashable" plastic coolers that you
can pack flat with clothesm, then use on the road, and pack flat again
for the return trip home.

New thread potential:  With the reduction in number of carry ons - any
reasonable yet durable ideas on checking tripods?
