Hello Will:

Thanks for posting your response to the group. 

I generally do non-linear regression in excel by using solver to find
coefficients that minimize the least squares error term. 

In the files section you will find a file named Hill Model fit in
Excel which I have posted as an example. 

In columns A and B you will see measured values for muscle shortening
velocity (mm/s) and muscle force (g) in a hamster gastroc. In column C
you will see the Hill model approximation of force and in column D you
will see the squared error term. In cell D1 you will see the sum of
the squared error terms. Cells F2 and F3 hold values for Hill
coefficients A and B. Use solver to minimize the sum of squared error
term in D1 by changing cells F2 and F3. Note that I included F0 as the
measured isometric force but I could approximate it by letting solver
change the values in F2, F3 and F4. 

Note to students: Please look long and hard at this example before
asking for help! You will probably find everything you need right
there in the spreadsheet.
