Position: A graduate assistantship in the University of Arkansas Athletics Department is available to start July 1st, 2013. The master's or Ph.D. student will work 20 hours per week over a 12- month contract (renewable upon satisfactory work). Graduate assistants receive a tuition waver, monthly stipend, and health benefits. Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Collaboration with the other nutritional staff on newsletter design/topics Aid in creation of the nutrition component of the monthly athlete newsletter Schedule appointments to meet with athletes and teams in a one-on-one setting Give nutrition presentations on topics of choice/request to athletic teams Assist with cooking demonstrations and other special events related to nutrition Create nutrition handouts for athlete use Attend relevant continuing education events Required Qualifications: Be a current or accepted student into the Master's or Ph.D Exercise Science Program in the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation. (New students will need to be accepted into the program before their application to the assistantship can be considered. Students needing to apply to the program can find information here: http://kins.uark.edu/4149.php) Excellent communication skills (via e-mail, phone, and in person) Undergraduate degree in dietetics or related field Preferred Qualifications: Registered Dietician Prior experience counseling and working with athletes' nutritional needs. Program: The RazorSharp Nutrition program is designed specifically for the University of Arkansas athletic program to encourage and educate Razorback athletes in their efforts to use nutrition as a means to fuel their performance in the classroom and in their sport. Athletes have the opportunity to discuss their personal nutritional concerns and needs with a nutritional counselor in a quiet, one-on-one setting. RazorSharp Nutrition strives to help athletes avoid illness and injury by promoting adequate nutritional intake to promote game day performance, increase off-season weight and body composition control, and improve pre- and post- performance nutrition and hydration status.
