I am working on a building which has an existing pipe schedule
system. The system provides protection both above and below. Each
area has separate cross mains and branch lines, but is fed by a
common feed main. The ceiling (both existing and new) are flat and
the roof is arched. The existing piping for the area below is to be
re-used to pipe sprinklers below a new ceiling. This system below is
to be hydraulically calculated, due to the number of sprinklers
necessary to accommodate the new floor plan. May the system above (at
the roof) be treated as an existing pipe schedule and not be
calculated? If it does need to be calculated, how do we calculate the
roof slope for an arched ceiling? It is over the 2:12 slope at the
hip, but decreases to flat at the "peak".
