Bingo. If you have to drain a standpipe, the floors stay locked in.
Also remember that if you are using a listed pressure reducing control
valve (as lower floors of a high-rise), that device may be used as a
check.

Subject: RE: Check Valves on Sprinkler Control Stations

One of the committee members said it was to keep water on the floor in
case
of shutdown or activation on another floor.

I thought I read in a article that one of the reasons was to eliminate
the chance for multiple floor flow alarms going off in case of a fire.

I stand corrected, I haven't dabbled in any high rise stuff lately.

Guess that way the contractor doesn't have to shut down the floor
control valves if the riser is disabled. <:|

Better start reading the '07 #14.
Mandatory now and I couldn't agree more.

Generally you have a control valve assembly of some sort on each floor
so you can isolate and test each floor. Personally, I don't see any
value in the check valve.

Not a code requirement but is it good practice to install a check valve
on floor control stations for a multi story building or high-rise etc.
The intent would be for maintenance work to the riser that all of the
system valves would not have to be closed and the floor systems would
not be drained inadverntly.

Anyone installing chack valves here or not worth the expense? Are there
any other benefits?

Thanks
