Subject: Ceiling Fan Obstruction of Residential Sidewalls

What is the proper way to place a residential sidewall sprinkler to avoid a
ceiling fan obstruction? I'm having some difficulty applying NFPA 13-2002,
8.10.7.2.1. Is the obstruction width the diameter of the fan blades or the
diameter of the motor unit?
