We all are aware that many States and Jurisdictions lack the funding, manpower and resources to adequately train and inspect all of the sprinkler systems out there.(Who's fault is that?) That does not mean that it then becomes a defacto part of the contractors job. If a public entity wants this service by a private firm I am sure that there are people out there willing to provide any service for a price. If tho that public entity has already said "It's not important enough for us to fund our AHJ's to do this" Why would or should it ever become the contractors "Responsibility?" State's City's and Counties around the country every day make decisions on the level of safety they provide. On the roads, in the schools, in the air and water we breath and drink. Yet it's not the road contractors job to say "It would be safer if these roads all had lights at night." He bids it and builds it according to the spec, and the applicable standards, even tho he knows that it would cause fewer deaths if all highways were lit.

We cannot hold ourselves liable for the inactions of the majority. We all should proceed at the level of "Good Faith" that we as an individual are comfortable with and accept the consequences. As my Lawyer once told me "We're all guilty of something." As I tell my kid's "Always do your best, and you'll know you've done all you can."

While I'll certainly agree it's the right thing to do, I vehemently disagree that the sprinkler industry- at least we dumb installing contractors- have a
legal or fiduciary duty to contact a fire official.
