We have tried NOT to tape and dope MULTIPLE times and we ALWAYS get the same results. Leaks.
The reason they do not want tape and dope is because of over tightening and causing stress crack in the fittings. We tried buying the blue dope and not taping and the GC's and owners complained that they can see the blue around the white heads. Not to mention that the blue stuff sticks to everything and permanently stains whatever it lingers on. We had many leaks in this scenario as well. The ONLY consistent way we have avoided leaks is to tape and dope and I will challenge anybody in the plastic industry on this point. Besides having BFP's with no expansion chambers, they specified the needed taping amount (all tapes are not the same thickness) and more importantly said don't tape and dope. Just say no.
