If you bias your sprinkler location (9 ft rule) on your landings-with-doors, such that it is towards the steps leading down, ensuring the sprinkler spray down to the landing below is not grossly obstructed by the stairs leading-up, you should get sufficient water on the intermediate landing from this sprinkler half-a-flight up.
intermediate landing: 4 ft wide lateral distance of treads: 7.5 ft wide This would protect the wood treads and risers and landing. Nothing else SHOULD be in the stairways, and rarely is at intermediate landings. Light hazard is more than sufficient water. In the past, I have gone with sprinklers on landings with door access/egress--and left intermediate landings bare, except for firefighters hose connections in cases where connections were required. If the risers and treads are combustible, and storage could happen underneath the bottom flight of stairs, I would put a sprinkler under there, as well. Scot Deal Excelsior Fire
>(1) Does putting 5/8" GYB Sheet rock underneath the landing makes this a Non >combustible stair? >(2) If this is considered a combustible stair do we have to put sprinklers >underneath all landings, not just underneath the entry on each floor, >including underneath the intermediate landing between the floors
