Todd et al,
As an additional note, what C-factor do you use for calculating the
existing pipe?
Thank You

As far as re-using pipe that has been taken down, In general most of
it goes to scrap, especially if a demo contractor takes it down
and/or there is evidence of corrosion or MIC. On a practical note,
not all of the pipe in my client's shops is new, so some used stuff
it out there. This especially hold true for oddball pipe and
fittings, such as 3-1/2". As far as I know, most of it is used for
things like drops or where the unusual stuff applies and not for use
on new installations. I don't necessarily police that stuff if I'm
doing shop drawings for a contractor, so I can't say for sure what
everyone does.
For pipe that is up there, it's re-used all the time. When an
addition is putting on an existing building and the plan is to
connect to the existing system, you don't remove all of the existing
and replace it as well. If you priced a job that way, you'd never get
the contract.
The contractors amongst us could speak for the pressure testing and
warrantee issues better than I.
