"PLEASE DO NOT RE-START THE EVIL ENG. vs LAYOUT TECH THREAD!!!"

Say what ?.................. How could one not restart this discussion
with that hand granade !

Hey its really quite simple, at least in NJ. You need to get NICET xx
accepted as an equivalent to the REQUIRED PE S/S, or change the
construction code such that fire sprinkler design is not deemed
engineering. Until that happens it is what it is.

Subject: Re: Eng. vs. Layout Tech.

Just wanted to pass along how the engineers are confusing the issue even
more.
PLEASE DO NOT RE-START THE EVIL ENG. vs LAYOUT TECH THREAD!!!

Section 13915 (Not yet into the 21st Century with 21.00.000, but at
least they aren't still in 1986 Div. 15) 1.1.D "The contractor shall be
the engineer of record for the fire sprinkler system."
1.5.B
"Product samples of sprinkler heads to be reviewed by the
architect/engineer"
(Now is this the EOR or that other fellow that just said "It's all
yours")
1.6 Quality Assurance
A. "Installer Qualifications: Installers responsibilities include
designing, fabricating, and installing fire-suppression systems and
providing professional engineering services needed to assume engineering
responsibility. Base Calculations on results of fire hydrant flow test.
(Didn't he just say I was to be responsible for engineering, now he's
telling me how to do that. Which is it to be?) 1.Engineering
Responsibility: Preparation of working plans, calculations, and field
test reports by a qualified professional engineer or NICET level III (or
higher) Technician.

Now is that installer qualifications or Designer/Layout Technician
qualifications, or possibly "Fire Protection Contractor"/EOR
Qualifications?
