We've done several 13R systems and yes, they usually double the design
area to 8 sprinklers.  Even when the largest compartment may have only 2
or 3.

Which brings up another interesting question. Since UFC 3-600-01
requires a higher hose flow for all of the hazards, does the higher flow
apply to 13R systems? the increased area does not apply due to the
specific requirement of calculating 4 sprinkler heads, but how is the
higher requirement for hose stream accounted for?
