The fire won't know it should stay out of the area having different sprinklers. 
I think the proper thing is to calculate the entire 3000 sf. If possible use QR 
throughout. or at least select RES heads with similar K's of QR heads. I think 
the worst situation I've come across is in attics, mixing standard heads and 
attic heads.
