Ryan,

Section 2006 IFC 903.3.7 says the "location of the fdc shall be approved by
the fire code official".  Rule of thumb in our region (Central Washington)
by the AHJ's is 100'.  Generally engine companies don't want to pull more
that 100' of supply hose (usually 5" LDH) off the bed of the engine to
supply the truck.
