I believe you are correct Forest, but the key is what are you comparing it to.
What has the time been in the past?
 What is the trip time?
 What is the water pressure?
 What is the air pressure?
 How old is the system?

I believe that Tyco has information on their website implying that higher air pressure in dry systems results in faster exhaustion of the air. But when you state that the time of water to Inspectors Test is too slow, was this the result of annual inspection? Because my understanding is that annual trip test is not intended to require 1 min response time, but only to measure response time and compare to previous years? Perhaps adding an Exhauster would help? Forest Wilson Cherokee Fire ------Original Message------

Subject: Slow responding dry pipe valves
Sent: Apr 28, 2009 9:24 PM

Dear colleagues,

Our client has a rather large dry pipe system supplied by a Victaulic dry pipe valve complete with an accelerator.
The system responds to slow to the ITC: more than 3 minutes.
The contents of the system is approx. 1300 gallon.
The air pressure in the system was set lower (in compliance with the Victaulic installation sheets) than we are used to with dry pipe valves of other manufacturers.

The sprinkler contractor and the local Victaulic representative couldn't find the cause yet. My personal impression is that the Victaulic mat take much more time between opening the test valve and water delivery than dry pipe valves of other brands. Does anyone share this impression or had the same experience ? If you prefer, you may react off-forum.
