I like one of the Bermad models because you can arrange the float in an
external well, which in turn can serve as a sight glass if you make the
well out of Plexiglas or Lexan tube, and you can test it by draining the
tube instead of the tank. Bermad calls it a Bi-Level Electric float.
Look at the model FP 450-65.

Subject: Re: Float Valve

Depending on the space conditions, sometimes you can create an open
ended standpipe away from the tank (where there is more space and its
easier
to maintain) where you mount the float control away from the the
actual valve and the tank. That way you can have the float mechanismm
where
it is easy to get to and the valve it controls in another location where
it
is easier to get to. The tank could be outside in the ground. Wherever
you
have the tank, it is the tank's filled surface elevation that drives
whether
or not this setup is possible. The CLA-VAL can have its float mounted
distant from the valve. Note that these sensing type valves require the
water pressure on the sensing lines to be at least a certain value to
keep
the valve closed. If you have the break tank because there is low
pressure
when drawing water, then the sensing line pressure might drop below the
minimum value under certain conditions. The valve would appear as if it
is
not closing all the way. You can avoid that situation by connecting the
sense line to the higher pressure side of your system instead of the
incoming water side as is the factory default.
