running constant, the average cost for 1 hp per year was $400, in 2007
(according to Peerless Pump)

...power companies have been OK with it...

Of course thy are ok with it, this small engine EAT ELECTRIC POWER like a
big one... They like to sell more electricity...
A 3 phase engine with the same power output will use (if you use correct
capacitive compensators) about 50 to 75 % of the power that the small engine
will use.

The biggest single phase fire pump available has a 15 hp motor. Have
done 3 of them and the power companies have been OK with it.
