IT is also worth  pointing out that after trying for 3 cycles to get  
ANYTHING in 13 indicating at what depth ( meaning distance down form  
the ceiling verses across the chord) a structural member IMPEDES heat  
so we can clearly say obstructed or unobstructed.  It is indeed 4  
inches.  See ROC 13-16.

So the determination depends on how far apart the purlins are and how  
deep they are and is now black and white.
