Kevin,

You are correct, well at least pursuant to the IBC;

705.4 Fire-resistance rating.
Fire walls shall have a fire-resistance rating of not less than that
required by Table 705.4.

TABLE 705.4
FIRE WALL FIRE-RESISTANCE RATINGS

GROUP   FIRE-RESISTANCE RATING     (hours)
A, B, E, H-4, I, R-1, R-2, U            3
F-1, H-3b, H-5, M, S-1                  3
H-1, H-2                                        4
F-2, S-2, R-3, R-4                      2

Hope that helps,

I am not aware of any 1 hr fire walls??? I think Roland is right,
likely a 1 hour barrier, not a firewall. Is the drop ceiling rated?

take a quick look at the definitions in the building code. Firewalls
are typically a larger rating and must allow collapse on one side
without pulling both sides down. Fire Partitions are used to separate
occupancies, fire areas, etc. Sounds like that's what you have and they
sometimes terminate at the drop ceiling.
