We had some in the area that border on the ridiculous.
83 yr old man gets a call from his daughter who told him to get out of his
apt, the bldg is on fire, she heard it on the scanner. How's that for
automatic alarm- can you imagine submitting a procedure to an AHJ that
includes a tenant's daughter listening to the scanner as a SOP for life
safety? Yet the news article instead focused on the wiring issue, complete
with a sidebar on basic extension cord safety. No mention of the non-working
alarms.

Not surprising at all considering the "trickle up poverty" economics.

Is anybody else seeing an increase in the number of fires in there
area? It seems like there are a lot more on the news on the CT area.
Mostly residential.
