And isn't that surprising given that we have these new "fire safe"
cigarettes? More treating the symptom and not the problem...

 I just received a media release from the Washington State Fire
Marshal's Office stating that fire deaths in the state for 2009 were
up 31% over 2008. Now that's a total of 59 individuals (or as they
used to say when talking about disaster fatalities "59 souls lost")
for an average of 8.8 per million and up from 6.8 per million in
2008.Highest we've ever seen since we started keeping stats in 1999
was for 2006 at 10.5/million. Smoking is way out front as cause,
followed by electrical issues (see, we should ban electricity from
houses rather than sprinklers--anyone from NAHB listening?).
Washington ranks 20th lowest in fire deaths per capita. Data you can
use rather than "does it feel...."
