Levent, Seems to me that developing a water supply for a standpipe system "in the middle of nowhere" will be far more expensive than doing the same for a sprinkler system, including the sprinkler system itself. The tank size and pump size can just be so much smaller in the latter scenario. There is also a huge leap of faith in believing that untrained personnel with hoses will get a fire under control before the arrival of the fire department. A total disaster is the more likely scenario. Of course we can only make recommendations and then try to solve the given problem as best we can, even if we know the performance criterion is wrong. It would be like being asked to design a sports car with wooden wheels and steel tires. It can be done, but it wouldn't work very well or for very long. I'd certainly put all my recommendations, based on generally accepted codes and practices in writing, and make sure they were included with any design I was directed to create that was based on user's poor specifications rather than on what I knew to be good practice. Buena suerte.
