Chris:

If LW pipe was used, check the weld seam of the pipe in the area of the
groove gasket seat, this area has been known to split the pipe at the weld
seam during the roll grooving process. That split can grow over time.

As far as NFPA 13 goes, 6.5.3.2 Grooves cut or rolled on pipe shall be
dimensionally
compatible with the fittings. I've been interested in the "Groove" standards
ever since I started to fabricate a patentable device which included a
groove. How to protect it so the simply by changing the groove dimension or
tolerance, someone else's device couldn't be called "unique".
