The samples have yet to make it to a testing lab as of yet. THe customer wanted a little more investigation to see if it was through out the system first. We found areas with 6 inch pipe that had the hardened substance (assumably MIC) three inches thick inside the pipe. We measured some areas where the internal diameter of 6 inch was reduced to 2.5 inches at the remote cross main of a wet grid system. Since it is in a huge factory we are now moving forward with sample testing and investigating the other 38 buildings. Some early reports from the other buildings are saying main drain numbers have decreased by half over the last 12 years. Will provide the sample results when we recieve them. We are really greatful for well educated fitters / inspectors catching this. We have been trying to convince the powers that be that there is a mic issue in this area.
Happy fourth to you all!!! J. I was still wondering if anyone had ever seen this particular pipe arrangement with regard to the main in the hall and sprigs in the cool area? Because of cramming the main into the 18 inches of available space above grid and below fire barrier there was not enough room to slope the piping is what the installing contractor says. Would that not then mean it could not meet the requiremnts of 8.15.2.3.1 that this particular arrangement of piping would not have been advised? J.
