The problem with the premix is that a 50-50 solution will only be
applicable in certain areas.
The graph in NFPA 13 clearly shows that in some areas, a stronger
anti-freeze solution is needed.
Contractors must be careful not to just start buying a 50-50 mix by the
drum unless it meets the criteria for their specific climate.
On top of that, one challenge when testing the solution is the unknown
variable of a prior company mixing ethyl glycol or propylene glycol with
glycerin, etc.
There is no way to identify the solution being tested (according to the
manufacturing reps I have spoken to). So, the refractometer may indicate
a certain freezing temp but it can be inaccurate if another type of
anti-freeze is mixed with it.

Rumor has it that 50-50 Premix (for glycerin) has been determined to be
okay. We are asked to test both high AND low points; if the mix is the
same, we're home free. If it's not, drain it and refill with premix.
I have some material I can forward to you if you want it. Please address me
directly at the email address shown.

Subject: Revisiting Residential Anti-Freeze Systems
I have 4 client systems that need to be drained.
Are you guys saving the glycerin (these happen to be residential cpvc
systems)?
Has anyone developed a CYA for the upcoming winter weather? Please share.
If not saving, are you container-izing and disposing?
The AHJ for these has got the draft (no pun) and made the call.
I have to go out and address this quickly.
