Absolutely, a real time flow test done as close as possible the proposed
system is the best method and will give the engineer and AHJ the best and
latest info. I was conducting a test recently, where the residual pressure went
UP while flowing > 1890gpm.
I called the local water company and spoke to a system engineer who informed me
of two systems that will raise the water pressure automatically.
The first is a pressure reducing valve system that will increases water main
pressure to the maximum available.
If the water pressure continues to drop, then a pressure transducer sends a
signal back to the pump station which activates another pump, again rising the
supplied pressure.
