Thanks for the responses. I hadn't heard before that AF systems were prone to leaks. Working in the south it's not something we come across.
I think I have to agree with the surface tension theory. From a quick google search I found the following values: Name CAS Ref.-No. Surface tension @ 20 °C in mN/m Ethylene glycol (EG) 107-21-1 47.70 Water (WA) 7732-18-5 72.80 Much smaller number equals leaky pipes (?) I had also heard that some of the biocides used to prevent MIC actually end up destroying rubber gaskets in mechanical fittings. Just wasn't sure if a similar reaction was happening with the AF systems.
