On #1 why not for 90% of buildings?  Sure it allows some things one might 
question like sched 5 pipe.  Even most HPS should be fine.  Just curious why.  
I certainly think the owner was expecting more for the fee paid.

1. "Meet the requirements of NFPA 13 and Local Codes" is not a legitimate 
specification.

2. Read through the boiler plate specification and make sure it applies to the 
job. Delete what doesn't and modify as necessary. Make sure you read and 
understand what is in it.

3. Take heed of the building structure and make sure you have a basic 
understanding of hanging pipe.

4. Chances are, the contractor and designer are going to have a lot more hands 
on experience than you do. Accept this and consider their suggestions as 
legitimate and not a threat.

5. Home-made chocolate chip cookies at a job meeting can go a long way to calm 
down a tense discussion.
