I have a purlin / beam type building (¼:12 roof -17’-10 top of purlin at
peak) with acoustical ceiling tiles approx 8’-0 AFF and the top of finished
walls (for offices, lobby, etc.) go to 8’-6 AFF. This is an old building
with wood constructed walls, minimal wood blocking (non structural) on top
of the walls and some gas fired heating units feeding duct work to ceiling
diffusers above the ceiling. Is there somewhere in NFPA that requires
sprinklers above the ceiling due to the gas fired heaters or am I thinking
residential here? If not, then per NFPA 13 2007 8.15.1.2.1 and A. 8.15.1.2.1
this area would not require sprinklers (as long as the wood was VERY minimal
and non structural) – is my interpretation correct?

Thank you,
