Greg,
I'm not sure he's stating it correctly, but I think I understand what
he's talking about.
DR-25 C900 pipe, when tested per AWWA C900-1997 standards, was given a
pressure class of 100 psi.
The AWWA C900-2007 standards assign a pressure class of 165 to DR-25 pipe.
So, my thought is that we've been able to use DR-25 for some time,
depending on the expected pressures in the underground portion of a
private fire service main, of course. It is kind of interesting to note
that the 1989 version of AWWA C900 was quoted in the 2007 edition of
NFPA-24. That's been revised in the 2010, which references the 2007
edition of C900.
Insert NFPA-24 committee disclaimer here, as this is only my opinion,
and doesn't represent anything but my own thoughts.

I was told by a local AHJ that we can now use C900 DR-25 for fire mains
because of the new edition of the codes, does anyone know why?
Thanks,
