I did a hotel years a ago where the sprinklers were omitted from the pool area but we did provide sprinklers in the mechanical room where the filters and pumps were located.
You didn't say if this was at a school or hotel or aquatic park or what the conditions were. That makes a difference. It could be an A-3 or A-4 occupancy, hard to tell since the particulars weren't given. See IBC 2006 903.2.1.3 for A-3 and 903.2.1.4 for A-4 occupancy fire protection requirements. There are a few other questions needing answers before anyone can say yes or no to sprinklers. But the environment isn't a player in the decision. We've had corrosive environments where the sprinklers and piping and all appurtenances had to be Stainless. Expensive yes, but there was no other material that would survive. Craig L.
