We test for MIC in two ways:
We remove a metal coupon from the suspect pipe (without draining down)
and through a metallurgical examination of the inside surface, assess
pipe-work condition for its suitability for continued use. Thus physical
evidence of MIC can be seen and used for AHJ purposes.
Additionally we take a sample of system water from the same location
(water is undiluted and not disturbed) this is sent to a certified
laboratory to check for microbial loading.
Turnaround is usually within a week.
As we are in the UK there would be no point in giving you the Lab name
but no doubt there are plenty in the US who do the same.
FM Global have conducted much research into this and I find it curious
that the locations for MIC (geographical) are so varied but the common
factor seems to be water from lakes or rivers??? Am I right there?
Regards
Tom

Subject: MIC Testing

Anyone know of a company that does MIC testing? Or is there a testing
kit available?
